2. Any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution (Merriam Webster).
3. Centrally planned economy in which the government controls all means of production (Heilbroner).
4. Refers to a set of related socioeconomic systems based on social ownership of the means of production and political management of the economy, and ideologies that seek to promote equality of outcome while maximizing opportunities “self-actualization.” (Rationalwiki)
5. Socialism is a social and economic doctrine that calls for public rather than private ownership or control of property and natural resources. According to the socialist view, individuals do not live or work in isolation but live in cooperation with one another (Ball).
SOCIALISM IN CUBA
Cuba has most of its economy being state-run, which includes a national health-care program, government-paid education, subsidized housing, utilities, entertainment, and subsidized food programs. Cuba also does not have a stock exchange, which shows that Cuba is a capital-free economy. Today, Cuba is aiming to shift toward a new mixed economy, which would remove government control of small business and have less state workers. This change was made after there was insufficient funds from the state-run subsidies to support all the government run social programs. From introducing new laws, we will see Cuba being making their way into market-based economy, which will increase their foreign investment (Seth).
SOCIALISM IN ANIMAL FARM BY GEORGE ORWELL
The way socialism relates to the novel Animal Farm is by every animal on the farm is equal, which is part of their seven commandments. All the animals shared work on the farm, and all the food they would collect would be equally shared among the animals. As we progress through the book, the farm beings to show more and more signs of being fascist, which makes the animals on the farm unhappy. Orwell does this to show how being in a socialist environment is better because of all the animals benefit from it and they are all treated the same instead of being treated different (Socialism: Understanding George Orwell's Animal Farm).
